French design jewellery, hand-finished

Tochu-De is a French jewellery design studio based in Auneau-Bleury, an hour south-west of Paris. Every piece begins as a 3D drawing and ends under a hand.

We sit between two worlds that rarely meet in France: contemporary design and craft. Our pieces are designed digitally, printed, and then finished by hand — not the other way around. Tochu-De means "halfway" in Japanese.

Awards

German Design Award 2023 — Special Mention Category: Excellent Product Design – Luxury Goods. Awarded for the 3D printed earrings "New Wave". Official reference: GDA2023-21942. Awarded by the Rat für Formgebung / German Design Council, Frankfurt — an institution founded by the German Bundestag in 1953.

BigSEE Fashion Design Award 2023 — Winner, Step Forward category. Zavod Big, Ljubljana Design Week.

Both distinctions went to the same object: the New Wave earrings, designed by Loïc Poudoulec in 2022. Printed in a single part in PA11 by SLS — no hand assembly, no soldering, no links. Behind an apparently simple shape lies a geometry that gives the piece its movement. The colour is then laid on by hand in a gradient. A conventional jewellery workshop cannot produce this object.

Following these awards, Tochu-De exhibited at Inhorgenta Munich 2024 and opened stockists in Germany and Ireland.

The Glassy and Choppy ranges come from the New Wave concept.

The two people behind it

Loïc Poudoulec — designer and 3D modeller. Twenty years in international automotive design (Mercedes, BMW, Mini, Rolls-Royce, Renault, Citroën, Bentley) before turning to jewellery. He draws and models every piece.

Karelle Poudoulec — colour and materials stylist, trained at Mod'Spé Paris. She paints every coloured piece by hand, in ink, directly onto the printed volume, then assembles it. Her hand is what makes each coloured piece its own.

They work together from a restored former harness maker's workshop in Eure-et-Loir. Karelle holds the French Artisan d'Art and Éco-responsable certifications, both awarded by the Chamber of Trades and Crafts in 2025.

How the pieces are made

Coloured range — around 90% of production. Designed in 3D, printed in PA11 by selective laser sintering, then hand-painted in ink by Karelle. Depending on the model: gradients, gold leaf, glitter, varnish. Multicoloured pieces vary slightly from one to the next — that is what hand-painting does. Monochrome pieces are very close to one another. Retail: €28 to €85.

Cast metal range. Designed in 3D, printed in wax, cast in brass by lost-wax casting, then gold- or rhodium-plated. These pieces are not painted: their character comes from the drawing and the process. Retail: around €250.

PA11 is a bio-based nylon derived from castor oil. Light, flexible and durable, it suits daily wear. Bio-based means made from a renewable plant source — it is not biodegradable, and we do not claim it is. Fresh water is fine; sea water is not recommended.

Unfused PA11 powder is recovered and returned to the production cycle, so sintering uses only the material the piece needs.

Printing and metalwork are handled by specialist suppliers in the Paris region, around 75 km from the workshop. Design, painting and assembly happen in-house. We do not print or plate ourselves, and we do not pretend to.

What we are not

Not a luxury brand — the Luxury Goods label is the competition's category, not our positioning. Not fine jewellery either. No solid gold or silver, no precious stones, no rings or wedding bands in the standard catalogue. Tochu-De is a design studio working in printed polymer and plated brass, in small series.
